FAREWELL TO OUTGOING SENIORS STUDENTS – 2021

In an emotionally surcharged atmosphere inside the seminarhall of the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Raichur, UASR Campus, the students, staff and Key officers of the College bid adieu to the Students of 2021 outgoing Doctoral and Master’s degree(Blue dashers and Emperors) at a farewell function on 23^rd of October, 2021.

The programme commenced with the Invocation and welcoming of the gathering. Later the final year students were asked to give their opinions about the department and staff. And the function was addressed by guests, Dr. M. Bheemanna. Dean (PGS), UASR, Dr. J. Ashok, Comptroller, UASR, Dr.Pramod katti, Nodal officer, ICAR, UASR and Dr.Prabhuraj. A. Professor and Head, Dept. of Entomology, UASR and Chief guest, Dr. M.G. Patil, Director of Education, UAS, Raichur where they spoke encouraging words of wisdom for the final year students and also explained the dilemmas which would be a barrier to the legal profession how the students should prepare themselves for the future endeavors and wished them with their motivational speech and also distributed the gifts of momentum to final year students, thereafter juniors also came forward to share their experiences and memories of their beloved seniors.

A video presentation by the juniors made everyone mushy. It reminded them of their yesteryears and home away from home. And the programme continued by a fun game “Pick and Art” which was conducted by the juniors to the seniors and also to the faculty.

Finally, the day was ended with lots of fun, emotions, guidance, encouragement and best of our wishes to the seniors

These images were captured by Sandeep Kumar Ch, Msc (Agri) student from department of Agricultural Entomology, Raichur. He was passionate about the insects and their behaviour and always used to closely observe them and capture them with macro lens attached to his mobile phone. He even created a platform on social websites like Instagram to expose his photographic collection to theentire world and eventually appreciated by number of people and institutes from around the world. The dedication towards the field of entomology and interest in the insect photography resulted in the wonderful collection of the insect photographs.

Glass paintings: The paintings were made on glass size of 8.3 x 11.7 inches by using oil paints. These insect outlines were made first and then suitable colours were filled onglass. As the glass surface is smooth so it gives a look which is more attractive than the normal paintings. Glass gives you a smooth surface to paint on and can let light through to make some breath-taking and radiant designs.

Rangoli is an art form originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or a tabletop using materials such as powdered lime stone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quartz powder, flower petals, and coloured rocks. Here, this rangoli is made on floor of size 4 × 4 ft. By using rangoli colours.

STUDENT’S INTERACTION WITH GUEST ENTOMOLOGISTS

After a long period of CIVID-19 lockdown, PG students of the Department had a unique opportunity to interact with the eminent entomologists from corporate world. Dr. Ramkumar, Entomologist from Corteva Agriscience, Hyderabad and Dr. Murali Krishna, Regulatory officer, Meghamani Organics, Ahmadabad visited the Department on 24 th August 2021.

Using this opportunity, Department organised an interaction meet between PG students and guests. Both entomologists sheared their experience in their area of research such as developing resistance verities/ hybrids in paddy against BPH, process of pesticide evaluation
and registration. The scientists also briefed on the opportunities available in the corporate sector for young budding entomologists. The interaction went on for two hours and it was a great experience to PG students. At the end, Dr. M. Bheemanna, Dean of the College and

University Head and Dr. Prabhuraj A, Department Head thanked the guests for sparing their valuable time and felicitated.

FELICITATION TO Dr. RAJU TEGGELLI

It was a proud moment to the fraternity of Entomology of UAS, Raichur. The ICAR-KVK, Kalaburagi under the leadership of Dr. Raju Teggelli, Programme coordinator bagged the second prize “PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAY KRISHI VIGYAN PROTSAHAN PURASKAR 2020” award instituted by ICAR, New Delhi for the year 2020. ICAR-KVK, Kalaburagi under his guidance and team support has demonstrated several innovative technologies for improving not only the crop production and productivity but also increasing the farmer’s income by channelizing the produce into right market.

Dr. Raju Teggelli through his innovative ideas, supportive nature and hard work has nurtured several youths into farming. As a result, Mr. Sharanabasappa an innovative farmer also won ICAR instituted “JAGJIVAN RAM ABHINAV KISAN PURASKAR/ JAGJIVAN RAM INNOVATIVE FARMER AWARD”. Dr. Raju Teggelli an entomologist by specialization has extended his expertise in other agricultural sciences. Dr. Bheemanna M, Dean of the College and University Head, Dr. Ahoka J, Comptroller, Dr. Prabhuraj A, Department Head, the faculty and students of the Department of Agril. Entomology, UAS, Raichur felicitated and congratulated Dr. Raju Teggelli for his distinguished achievement and wished him all the best to win many more such awards.

THURSDAY GROUP MEET

“THURSDAY GROUP” meet is an interactive, knowledge enriching and personality development forum in the field of Entomology. This meet was started by the Head of the department for the benefit of PG students of Agril. Entomology.

The main objectives this group is

To expose students to basics and applied research activities going on at regional, national and international level.
To encourage students to participate in the group discussion on various entomological research publications.
To mold the budding entomologists to think and act independent in the entomological science.
To coach PG students in for various competitive examinations viz., NET, ASRB scientists, ICAR-SRF etc.
To provide opportunity to interact with senior entomologists through guest lectures and to express their .

In order to fulfill the above objectives, series of guest lectures, brain storming sessions of important publications, coaching classes by the senior ASRB scientists for ARS scientist examination are organized. At present it has completed seven meetings and drawn good response from the faculty and students of Entomology.
