• On 1^st October 2022, the Department of Entomology UASR, organized a felicitation cum send off programme to Dr. Harishchandra Naik, Assistant professor, Entomology, UASR, as he got Promoted and appointed as Associate Professor of Entomology, at University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot.

• The Head of the Department, Dr. Prabhuraj A, the faculty Dr. Arurkumar Hosamani, Dr. A G Sreenivas, Dr. Sushila Nadagouda, Dr. S G Hanchinal, Dr. Shivaleela, Dr. Vijayakumar Ghante and Dr. Hadimani, shared their opinion about the service and achievements of Dr. Harishchandra Naik during his 10 years of significant services at UAS, Raichur. The students of the department wished him all the best for his future endeavours. After the felicitation, Dr. Harishchandra Naik spoke and expressed his gratitude and support received during his service. Finally, the department faculty and the students gave the token of love and honoured the teacher. The program was ended with the High-Tea.

• After over three decades of service to in the field of Entomology, our great teachers Dr. M Bheemanna (Professor and Head (PRFQAL), University Head, Dept of Entomology and Dean (PGS), UAS Raichur) and Dr. J. Ashoka (Professor of Sericulture, Dept of Entomology and  Comptroller, UAS Raichur)retired from the service on 16th June, 2022. Traditionally, when such historic moment comes, it indeed marks a life passage into the next chapter for an employee. The function for retirement was memorable, heartfelt and honourable.

  The function was organized by the Dept. of Entomology UAS Raichur. Under the guidance of Dr. A. G. Sreenivas, Professor of Entomology , the programme commenced with the Invocation and welcoming the gathering. The event looked complete and beautiful with the gracious presence of Dr. M. Bheemanna, Dr. J. Ashok, and their family. The sweet memories of their association during the service period were shared by Mr. Somasekhar, Entomologist (Retd.) MARS UASR, Dr. Pramodkatti, Nodal officer, ICAR, UASR, Dr. S.S. Kharabhantanal, Associate Professor, UASD and other the entomology faculty. Later students shared their association with retiring scientists expressing their gratitude to both the professors and lauded their dedication, patience and kindness which will never be forgotten. The function hall was overwhelmed with the mixed emotions.To lighten up the mood of the program,a small  video clip with bunch of photos was played to recollect the sweet memories that faculty and students had together. And finally, the cynosure of the program Dr. M. Bheemanna and Dr. J. Ashok shared experience of their professional life, which mesmerised the gathering. All the attendees gave their token of love and felicitated to both the professors and their family and thanked them for their endless patience, motivation and persistence which shaped the carriers of young scientists and students. And finally, everyone wished them a very Happy Retirement life. The program ended with the dinner at International Guest house.

• Fresher’s Party” in any college is an event that every student eagerly awaits from their time of admission. Fresher’s Party is to welcome new students in a friendly atmosphere and to encourage their creative impulses to boost their confidence. It is the day where seniors and juniors finally bond and unite to celebrate being part of the college. A Fresher’s Party with the theme “Wandering Gliders” was organized on 9th March 2022, Wednesday. The program was organized by the senior M.Sc. (Agri) and senior Ph.D. students for the freshers of Ph.D. and M.Sc. newcomers at the Seminar Hall of COA, UAS, Raichur. The program was hosted by Ms. Chaitanya and Mr. Sandeep, students from 2nd Year M.Sc. Agri.

• The program started at 4pm as per the schedule planned. And the function was addressed by guests, Mr. Somasekhar, Entomologist (Rtd.) MARS UASR, Dr. M. Bheemanna. Dean (PGS), UASR, Dr. Satyanarayana Rao, Dean (Agri), COA, UASR Dr. Pramodkatti, Nodal officer, ICAR, UASR and Dr. Prabhuraj. A. Professor and Head, Dept. of Entomology, UASR. The program starts with the invocation by Varnitha. This was followed by the lamp lightening by the Dignitaries. Then the Guests of the function expressed their opinions and suggestions. Senior students had done welcome of beloved 1st-year freshers. The new talents were showcased in the department veranda.

• One of the 2nd year Ph.D. scholars (D Neethu Roy) read out the address of welcome and received the new students cordially with roses and a memento. All the new-comers expressed their feelings and gratitude. Dr. Prabhuraj. A, Professor and Head, Dept. of Entomology officially addressed the gathering by a presidential speech and the cordial function was ended with the Vote of Thanks by one of the senior students Ms. Sai pooja who thanked the chief guest, the teachers, and the students of the Entomology department for their cooperation in making the function a success.

• After that, the cultural group of the freshers performed their songs, dances, Guitar, and also participated in games conducted by Mr. Jayant. The function came to a close at 7.30 pm with the fine dinner arranged in the college lawn.

• A one-day workshop on Indian Bioresource Information Network was conducted on 10th March 2022 at UAS, Raichur. Which was organized by Dr. Prabhuraj. A, Professor and Head, Dept. of Entomology, UASR in the Entomology department Seminar Hall. Dr. K. N Ganeshaiah was the pillar of the workshop who headed the day and the team members Akshatha, Harshitha, Monika also were present and lead the workshop. Dr. Satyanarayana Rao, Dean (Agri.) College of Agriculture, UAS, Raichur was invited as guest. Three Post-graduate students from seven departments of Agriculture, took part in the workshop.

• The workshop began with the welcome note by Dr. K. N Ganeshaiah at 9:30 am followed by Software loading and Introduction to IBIN. Also distributed Jeeva sampada and Sasya Bharathi CDs to those students who actively participated in the program. After the tea break, in the second session Insect Mrs. Akshatha and team gave a demo on Recourses of India at 12:30pm. In the afternoon session an online talk through Zoom was organized in which Dr. R. Uma Shankar delt Species Discovery and Breaking the walls to shake hand; was held by Mr. Sachin A Rosario through Zoom. Again, in the late evening session Dr. K. N Ganeshaiah explained about using IBIN database to search plants from Mythology. Later the workshop was carried forward with fruitful discussion and certificate distribution. At the end few students shared their feedback and also thanked the team

These images were captured by Sandeep Kumar Ch, Msc (Agri) student from department of Agricultural Entomology, Raichur. He was passionate about the insects and their behaviour and always used to closely observe them and capture them with macro lens attached to his mobile phone. He even created a platform on social websites like Instagram to expose his photographic collection to theentire world and eventually appreciated by number of people and institutes from around the world. The dedication towards the field of entomology and interest in the insect photography resulted in the wonderful collection of the insect photographs.

Glass paintings: The paintings were made on glass size of 8.3 x 11.7 inches by using oil paints. These insect outlines were made first and then suitable colours were filled onglass. As the glass surface is smooth so it gives a look which is more attractive than the normal paintings. Glass gives you a smooth surface to paint on and can let light through to make some breath-taking and radiant designs.
