Cotton Pink bollworm has gained importance in the post era of Bt cotton technology in view of its resistance to Cry toxins introgressed in the cotton hybrids introduced since 2002 in India. As a result of which, farmers are compelled to use insecticides resulting in increased plant protection costs besides polluting the environment. To overcome these problems, an ecofriendly approach through SPLAT-PBW has been demonstrated in the farmers' field on a large scale
Pink bollworm, a serious pest on Bt cotton, has a peculiar life cycle involving diapause in larval stage. It is essential to understand its biology in order to fabricate a better management strategy
Management of insect pests on stored grains is always a challenge owing to the cryptic habitat of the pest and contamination of food grain with pesticides. Mr. Wazid Biradar has explored a novel technology of using green nanoparticles for the management of rice moth, a serious pest on stored grains
"The paper is unique in providing first ever evidence of migratory behaviour of indian population of H. armigera. It is an outcome of collaborative research with Rothamsted Research, UK and NCBS, Bengaluru"
It was the first ever study on the molecular mechanism involved in insecticides resistance in BSFB. The result indicated the involvement of metabolic enzymes in insecticide resistance.
A novel gene CYP324F1, was identified and has not been reported from any other living system so far. The gene was validated by dsRNA based RNAi and confirmed the involvement in xenobiotic detoxification.
It is a novel work in which a total of 9 genes were studied to identify the suitable reference gene for RT-qPCR study to analyse the gene expression in BSFB. The genes, 28SR3 and GAPDH considered are as stable and suitable for normalisation.
